About
Emily Yates writes songs so that she can express her opinions without getting slapped. http://emilyyatesmusic.com
Emily's songs are based on her observations about Life, the Universe and Everything. Armed with her ukulele, banjo, and complete lack of shame, she jauntily skips along a road paved with brazen lyrical honesty. She beckons you sweetly to hurry the hell up and sing along already.

Biography
After finishing a six-year stint in the U.S. Army, Emily Yates learned to play the ukulele, and decided to use her training as a military journalist for a greater purpose. She started writing songs – some light-hearted, such as "Try Not To Be A Dick," a finalist in the 2012 International Songwriting Competition, and some less so, like "Yellow Ribbon" and "Smoke Break," reflections on her deployments to Iraq – and playing them to her unsuspecting friends, loved ones and neighbors, who generally approved. Since 2011, she's recorded three albums of original songs: I've Got Your Folk Songs Right Here (2012), Folk In Your Face (2014), and a children's album, released under a pseudonym in 2014.

“There’s no denying Yates’ piercing wit and unflinching commitment to telling the truth as she sees it,” writes Gary Peterson in the San Jose Mercury News. “From ‘I Don’t Want to Have a Baby,’ to ‘Shut Yer Face,’ to ‘Foreign Policy Folk Song,’ you don’t have to wonder what she’s thinking.”

In the years since those initial performances, Yates has supported and performed with musicians of many genres, as well as stand-up comics. She's toured the U.S. from coast to coast and is currently based in Colorado, where she can regularly be found folking faces around the Front Range and generally getting up to no good. Although she's still in the beginning stages of Eventual Ukulele Superstardom, she is sure that soon she will be able to drop the "Eventual" and just move on to total world domination.
